Working on a canvas so large it barely fits in my studio. Here is Mesa 2 which is 54 x 132 inches (that's 11 feet wide). I need to use two easels to hold the painting.
Here's the same painting about 10 hours later. I've lightened and soften the periphery and made the central part of the painting more pronounced, giving the work more focus, a stronger core.
And here is the painting, after a bit more fine tuning, in its final form:

Hi Chase, I can't choose one or the other because the light is different in each. The bottom line is, it is a wonderful painting and it transported me immediately to the California desert in the 70s where I spent two weeks with Hal Riegger (raku potter) and about 20 others. We made pots from the clay in the area, and fired them in pits we dug using dried cow plops as the fuel. It gave the pots wonderful colors. So that the desert, the arroya near by, the wet clay, our hand made tools and the timelessness of the place are all in that painting. I'd buy it, but It is too big for my house...Sorry.
ReplyDeleteTrudy saw it as a bridge over water. Like me, she loves your colors.
